Question 1

How long should a URL slug be?

Accepted Answer

Short enough to read at a glance. Three to five words is a good target. Google does not set a hard limit, but short slugs are easier to share and less likely to be cut off in results.

Question 2

Should I remove stop words from a slug?

Accepted Answer

Usually, yes, when the slug still reads clearly without them. Dropping words such as the, of and and keeps the URL short. Keep a word if removing it changes the meaning.

Question 3

Can I change a slug after the page is published?

Accepted Answer

You can, but the old URL stops working unless you redirect it to the new one with a 301. Pick the slug before you publish, and only change it when there is a good reason.

Question 4

Does it work for languages other than English?

Accepted Answer

This tool keeps letters a to z and digits. Accents are removed (é becomes e), but characters from other alphabets are dropped. For those languages, write the slug by hand.
