Troubleshooting

Backlink check is blocked or returns an error

Diagnose a failed fetch without mistaking it for a lost link.

01Validate the source page

Confirm that the source URL is the actual public page where the link should appear, not only the site homepage. Check that it loads without an authentication wall, temporary rate limit, or redirect to an unrelated domain.

02Interpret blocked versus error

Blocked generally means the fetch was prevented by an access restriction, unsafe redirect, or rate limit. Error generally means the request or processing failed. Both require a later retry or investigation before you conclude the placement is lost.

03Run a fresh check

After the publisher or network issue is resolved, use Check backlink now again. Review the new evidence and timestamp. If the source page has moved, close the outdated tracker only after deciding whether the new URL should be recorded separately.

04Ask for a focused investigation

Contact support with the source URL, target URL, Workspace, backlink ID if visible, latest status, and error text. Do not include credentials or assume an error proves the link was removed.
