What is the difference between mentions and citations?
A mention names your brand; a citation links to a source.
Updated
01Mentions
A mention is your brand name appearing in the text of an AI answer. Visibility, sentiment, position, and share of voice are all built from mentions.
02Citations
A citation is a source URL the engine referenced, either inline in the answer or as a source it consulted. The Citations page groups them by domain and page.
03Why both matter
Citations show which pages AI engines trust for your topics. Being mentioned on those pages, through a review, a forum reply, or a backlink, is one of the most direct ways to earn more mentions in future answers.
